Hard Tarn is appropriately named. It lies in a small shelf high up on the south-eastern side of Nethermost Pike. The recommended approach is to follow the stream up from Ruthwaite Lodge, a climbing hut in Grisedale. It appears that it can be observed from High Crag, above and to the west, but the photos I have seen of it lead me to believe that the effort of walking (or scrambling) to the tarn itself will be worthwhile.
