Littlewater Tarn is on the eastern side of the fells, between Bampton and Haweswater dam. On private land, it lies in a small hollow in the lightly wooded lowland hills, with a thin line of trees on its shores and some reed and sedge on the north shore.

Although it cannot be accessed directly, it can be seen from the farm track to Littlewater, or from a footpath that runs between Bampton and Drybarrows.
