Middlerigg Tarn is a large artificial lake near Troutbeck Bridge. Although it is private, the Wain Lane bridleway to Town End passes along the south side, separated only by a wall which was broken down in several places when I visited and gave me a clearer view. Unfortunately there are small trees growing between the lake shore and the wall, so a completely unobstructed view was not possible.

The tarn is rather attractive, as one would expect of an ornamental lake, complete with an island and a jetty on the northern side. The house and boathouse are at the western end, beside the stone & earth dam.
