Mortimere is an artificial tarn in the grounds of the Brathay Hall Field Study Centre. In the 1960s the Director of Studies, Mike Mortimer, enlarged an existing small pond to provide a convenient location for biology studies. He died in 1983 and the tarn was named Mortimere as a memorial to him and his work.

A pretty, but small, patch of water set between trees and fields, it is visible from the Hawkshead road just outside Clappersgate.
