Foxes Tarn is supposedly the second highest tarn in England, although my OS maps imply that neighbouring Broadcrag Tarn is actually lower. Even the Ordnance Survey themselves cannot be sure since the latest revisions of the maps were made using aerial surveys. The only way to be certain would be a difficult (and expensive) ground survey, which is unlikely to happen.

The tarn lies in a small trough on the eastern flank of Sca Fell, below the screes that lead to the summit. Its size varies with the seasons, but is always the second smallest named tarn in Lakeland.
