Parkgate Tarn is a natural tarn that was enlarged to make an ornamental lake for the nearby Irton Hall. It has since deteriorated badly due to a break in the dam wall and the shores are now very boggy. It still has a fine bed of water lilies, however.

The tarn may be accessed by deviating off the footpath that runs north-south through Irton Park, although after wet weather this path can be extremely boggy.
