It may only be an artificial fish pond, but nonetheless Sow How Tarn is a very pretty tarn - especially when the water is as still as it was on my first visit.

Near Sow How Farm, it can be accessed by taking the footpath that leads out of the farm to the north-east. The tarn is held back by an unintrusive stone dam, with a well-engineered spillway to the southern end. On the eastern shore there is a splendid stone boathouse.
