Esthwaite Water lies, just outside Hawkshead between Coniston Water and Windermere. It receives water from several becks all around the lake, and drains via Cunsey Beck into Windermere. There are two small tarns close by. Priest Pot to the north is in a fen area, undisturbed for 400 years apparently, drains into Esthwaite, whilst Out Dubs Tarn is just to the south, through which the Cunsey Beck flows.

An attractive little lake, unfortunately Esthwaite has limited access for photography. There is a nice view from the north-eastern side, looking across a meadow with a couple of stone barns, and a public car park a short way from the lake foot up the western shore. The view from here is somewhat spoilt, though, by the pens of a fish farm. There is a footpath running from Roger Ground (just south of Hawkshead) to the lake shore at a point called The Nab, which I have yet to investigate.
